St Jean Cap Ferrat

St. Jean Cap Ferrat...Only in St. Remy de Provence and in Paradou, do I feel as at home as I do in St. Jean.

This little penninsula, situated halfway between Nice and Monaco, has been luring well-heeled travellers since the end of the 19th century. Then a home for Captains of Industry such as the Rothschilds as well Royalty, the King of Belgium for one, St. Jean continues to lure the famous and the wealthy. Currently both Paul Allen and Bill Gates have homes here, the Rolling Stones spent a part of their tax exile years here and more recently Bono sat down for coffee as my friends and I were doing the same at La Civette, the neighborhood cafe in St Jean.

But while luring celebrities may be what made St. Jean famous, what lured me here and made me fall in love with it was the fact that it is still the small fishing village it has always been...albeit now there are multi-million dollar yachts bobbing next to the bright blue fishing boats.

Over the years I've made many friends in St. Jean. One is Pascal. The apartment being offered here is his.

The apartment is approximately 1100 sq. ft. It consists of 2.5 bedrooms (the .5 bedroom is currently a child's room), 2 baths, a full service kitchen, and a huge, beautiful roof deck, complete with hammock, barbecue grill, dining table for 10, deck chairs, etc.

The apartment itself is incredibly beautiful (the pictures do not do it justice). The colors are typical Cote d'Azur - burnt oranges and deep blues. The floors are tiled with beautiful stone tiles. The furniture consists of modest, but very interesting antiques from the 20's - 60's. Pascal's tastes tend to be rather eclectic.

The master bedroom suite includes a large two person jacuzzi tub, and the two bedrooms sleep 4 very comfortably. The closet space is very very ample.

Views from every room, are breathtaking - the Mediteranean, the tiled roofs of adjoining buildings, gardens, the hills above...just beautiful.

The roofdeck affords views that are pure postcard. On clear days you can see the lights of Monaco twinkling in the night, and watch the the Grand Corniche, and the Moyen Corniche (made famous by Grace Kelly's death), can been seen snaking into the night. There is truly no more perfect place for the morning espresso or the sunset glass of champagne.

This place is truly a magical getaway for either a couple, two couples or a family of four.

Pascal has been very gracious to offer this apartment to me at rates that are considerably below market for the Cote d'Azur.

We would be happy to assist you in planning your trip - everything from auto rental to restaurant reservations.

The Rates are:

Prices are in Euros (1 Euro = $1.17 approx)
April - 2,750/month or 800/week
May - 3,500/month or 1,000/week
June - 4,250/month or 1,250/week
July - Sept - 5,500/month or 1,500/week
December 23 - Jan 2 - 1,500/week
All other times - 2,500/month or 725/week

This is an apartment used by Pascal and his family when not being utilized by vacationers. It is set up primarily for comfortable everyday living. While in my opinion, it is an incredible place to stay on all levels, I don't want to portray it as the equivalant of a 5-star Cote d'Azur hotel. For that, I highly recommend the Grand Hôtel du Cap Ferrat.
